Sharang Rathore (b Nov 12, 1975) of Gurgaon, Haryana achieved an altitude gain of more than 8,848 m (the height of Mt Everest) in 18 hr 27 min on a geared bicycle on March 24, 2016. He started the attempt from Bir village (1,525m) in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh at 3.15 am and rode up to Billing Take Off Point (2,400m), approx. 16 km away from Bir. He repeated the trip four times and another short trip of 30 m, adding up to a total altitude gain of 8,858 m by 9.42 pm the same day. The total distance was 127.6 km while each trip added an average 2,207 m in elevation.
