Arunima Sinha of Lucknow, UP, despite one of her legs amputated below the knee, scaled Mt Carstensz Pyramid (4,884 m), the highest mountain peak of Australia-Oceania region in the Papua Island, Indonesia in 2016. Earlier, Arunima had climbed Mt Everest becoming the world’s first woman amputee to do so on May 21, 2013. A former national level volleyball player, she lost her leg after she was pushed off a running train by thieves in 2011.
