The auction of players for the Hockey India League, which started in 2012, has led to lucrative contracts for players. In the 2015 auction, Akashdeep Singh (UP Wizards) topped the list of money earners among Indians, grossing $84,000 (Rs. 55.5 lakhs). Amongst foreign players a record sum of $105,000 (Rs. 69.50 lakhs) was paid for German midfielder Maritz Fuerste (Kalinga Lancers).
