 Tejas, the indigenously developed light combat aircraft was cleared for development, 33 years after it joined the IAF in Bengaluru on July 1, 2016. Tejas, which means radiance, was named by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The first two Tejas aircraft joined the new Flying Daggers squadron, scheduled to get 18 such aircraft. Tejas has Israeili multi-mode Elta 2023 radar that includes four trainer aircraft. The jets have been developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the engine American and the ejection seat is British. The body is constructed with Indian carbon fibre composites and the Tarang Radar Warning Radar is Indian.
