As the first part of the Navy’s project, Sagar Parikrama, Cdr Dilip Dhonde, a clearance diver, completed circumnavigating the globe on May 19, 2010. It took him over nine months that included four stops with shore support with Cdr Abhilash Tomy who is the first Indian and second Asian to sail and circumnavigate the globe solo, unassisted in 2013. The 56 ft long craft was built by Ratnakar Dandekar at the yard of a private builder, under the supervision of Dhonde.
