Exercising in the heat
without adequate hydration
can cause dehydration,
impacts heart rate and
body temperature
regulation. The more dehydrated the
athlete gets, the negative
effect on his/her
performance increases. Excessive dehydration can
increase the risk of heat
stroke. It could result in
acute kidney failure. Active cooling strategies –
ice towels, ice vests or cool
water sprays could serve
as additional guard
against dehydration.
Dehydration during exercise
in cooler weather conditions
can be as high as in hot
conditions.
For indoor sport, people
train with more clothes on.
Actual sweat rates can be
close to those in warmer
conditions.
At high altitudes, the oxygen
supply is thinner, air drier.
It results in more fluid
being evaporated from
the body passively.
For extreme conditions use
your sweat rate to guide
fluid intake. How to Calculate Sweat Rate and It’s Use
