Coca-Cola India Wins Best Exporter Award For Roasted Coffee Beans

Coca-Cola in India was recently honored with the 'Best Exporter Award' by the Coffee Board of India in the 'Roasted Coffee Beans' category for the year 2007-08. The award was presented by S V Ranganath, former chairman of the Coffee Board of India to Deepak Khanvilkar – General Manager,International Trade, Coca-Cola India.

Coca-Cola India exported 66.4 metric tons of coffee beans worth 17.13 million INR in the year 2007-08. This constituted over 38% (as compared to 29% last year) of the total exports in the roasted coffee beans category.

Congratulating Coca-Cola India and the other Coffee Export Award winners for the year 2007-08, G K Pillai, Secretary - Department of Commerce commented on the Coffee Board's endeavor to promote value-added exports out of India. He added, "The Performance of the coffee sector for the year has been highly satisfactory and I hope that the momentum will continue in the current year also."

Coca-Cola India was also the 'Second Best Exporter' of Roasted Coffee Beans in India last year. Starting with the modest beginning of exporting 1000 kg of roasted coffee beans to Coca-Cola, Bahrain in 2003, the company has expanded the exports to Coca-Cola business units in Saudi Arabia, U.A.E, Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria. In addition, Coca-Cola India also exports dairy whitener and cocoa premixes as part of the vending model to these business units.

The Coffee Board of India has been recognizing the efforts of coffee exporters by awarding top performers in categories like overall green coffee exports, coffee exports to European Union, USA, Middle East, Russia & the CIS and Far East Countries as well as value added coffee as it provides a huge advertisement for Indian Coffee in the world markets.
