April 22, 2015: Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd. (HCCBPL) is committed to invest in the state of Tamil Nadu and looks forward to invest in the State. However, the company has written to the state government that due to unforeseen pressures and delays it will not be able to invest in SIPCOT, Perundurai.

HCCBPL was allotted a parcel of land by SIPCOT to set up a green-field state-of-the art bottling plant at a proposed investment of Rs. 500 crore in year 2014. The company took all steps to start construction on the aforesaid allotted land. However, the project was delayed due to unanticipated, outside pressures. In spite of repeated follow-ups, the following pre-requisite approvals/permissions were awaited which include:

  • Draft copy of the ‘Water Agreement’ to procure water from NTADCL
  • Laying of water line from SIPCOT entrance to our allotted site for which we have already made the payment
  • Approval for laying effluent transfer line from Plot FF7 to KK8
  • Laying of the proposed land leading to temple for which we have already made the payment

Without these, we are unable to apply for ‘Consent to Establish’ and start construction work on the site. Despite sending repeated reminders to SIPCOT but there has been no progress. These inordinate delays, coupled with local activism against the project, could not have been foreseen nor prevented by us. Despite best efforts to address concerns, we could not commence construction and the project cannot be executed. We have requested State Government to refund entire money paid so far.
