Commemorates by inaugurating a new Greenfield Plant at Chatta (Mathura district) in Uttar Pradesh

Chatta, Mathura District (Uttar Pradesh), October 24, 2013: Commemorating Coca-Cola’s 20 years of operations in India and in keeping with its plans of investing US$ 5 billion in India, by 2020, Mr. Guy Wollaert, Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, The Coca-Cola Company, today inaugurated a new state-of-art bottling facility at Chatta, Uttar Pradesh. This plant is Coca-Cola system’s 58th manufacturing plant in India. The Greenfield plant is owned by Brindavan Agro Industries (P) Ltd. – The Coca-Cola Company’s franchise bottler in Uttar Pradesh. Like all the other bottling facilities, this plant will play a role in catalyzing economic growth, contributing to the packaged beverage revolution and providing employment. The bottling plant in Chatta will provide employment to over 225 people.

Two decades ago, on October 24, 1993, Coca-Cola was launched in Agra. Since then, Coca-Cola India has made rapid strides in the packaged beverage market, owning two of the country’s largest soft drinks brands – Thums Up and Sprite – in its portfolio. Coca-Cola is now one of the fastest growing sparkling brands, registering an 18% volume growth during Q3, 2013. The Coca-Cola system has already invested US$ 2 billion in India between 1993 to 2011, refreshing and hydrating consumers more than 500 times per second.

The new plant has two bottling lines – a Sparkling PET Line and a Sparkling RGB Line. The plant will cater to 9 districts of Western Uttar Pradesh and some parts of Madhya Pradesh. Brindavan Agro has invested more than Rs.135 Crore (US$ 23 million) to commission this plant.

The opening of the Chatta plant is in keeping with the company’s long term growth projections for business in India and will play a significant role in expanding the soft drinks business in India. Amongst those present at the inauguration were Mr. Venkatesh Kini, Deputy Business Unit President, Coca-Cola India and South West Asia and Mr. Gulab Chand Ladhani, Managing Director and Chairman, Brindavan Agro Industries Pvt. Ltd.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Guy Wollaert, Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, The Coca-Cola Company, said, “There could not have been a better way of saying Thank you to India than inaugurating a new greenfield plant. A new plant will not only catalyze economic growth, it will also contribute to the development of the local community. This new plant reflects our belief in India as a strategic growth market with immense potential.”

Over the last 20 years, the Coca-Cola India system has partnered with government bodies, civil society and business organizations to play a positive role in the growth and development of communities. It has introduced path breaking innovations like the solar cooler, Minute Maid Pulpy Orange, Minute Maid Nimbu Fresh, Mobile University for training retailers and Coke Studio. It has led several sustainability programs like the recently introduced “Water for Future” program – a water recovery and reuse system – which saves upto 30% freshwater.
