Coca-Cola Cricket Cup takes forward Coca-Cola India’s commitment to promote a sporting culture and healthy active living in the country

Coca-Cola India XI to play the competitive three match series tournament against Bangladesh U-17 national team

The 9 month tournament involved participation from over 12,500 young cricketers across 850 plus schools in 70 districts

Partnership involves coaching clinics, sports medicine, sports nutrition camps, international exposure and training for selected cricketers

Entire program being mentored by former Test Cricketer Saba Karim

New Delhi, June 11th, 2014: Coca-Cola India, the country’s leading beverage company, reiterates their commitment towards promoting grassroots cricket and announced the final stage of the Coca-Cola Cricket U-16, a Three Match Series Tournament between Coca-Cola India XI and Bangladesh U-17 National team at Kochar Continental Hotel, Delhi. The dignitaries present were Sujatha V. Kumar, Director – Strategic Initiatives, Coca-Cola India, Dr. Raju Easwaran, Sr. Consultant – Orthopaedics & Sports Injury, Max Super Speciality Hospital and P.N.Sankaran, Director Operations– Procam International.

The three match series between Coca-Cola XI and Bangladesh U-17 will be played from 13th to 16th June 2014 in Delhi. The first 2 matches of the series being day and night will be played at 2.30pm at Cricket Academy, Sarvodya Kanya Vidhyalaya, with the final day match being played at 8.30am at Jamia Islamia Cricket Ground, Jamia Nagar. The series will comprise of 50 over matches and will be played as per the ICC rules. The Coca-Cola XI team will be led by Muklit Bhat from Delhi and Daryl Ferrarrio from Tamil Nadu will be the Vice Captain. The Bangladesh team will be led by Shafial Hayet and Mohammed Saif Hassan will be the Vice Captain. At the end of the series, three aspiring young cricketers will be named as the Coca-Cola cricket cup stars.

Coca-Cola India XI is the outcome of 3rd season of the Coca-Cola Cricket Cup Under-16 Cricket Tournament, the country’s largest Inter-School Cricket Championship, in partnership with Procam International. The 9 month tournament involved participation from over 12,500 young cricketers across 850 plus schools in 70 districts in 10 states under the aegis of the respective State Cricket Associations. Sports College, Lucknow, UP won the Inter State tournament and Al. Barkat Malik M. I. English School, Mumbai was the runner up.

After the Inter State tournament concluded, 27 players were selected for the training with Anthony Adams (Head Coach, Cricket Indian Academy), Sanjay Bhardwaj, Coach of Coca-Cola Cricket Cup and Chetan Sharma, Former Player. Post the week long coaching, the final Coca-Cola India team was selected and given an opportunity to prove their mettle by participating in a competitive tournament against an invited International U-17 team from other cricket playing nations.

As a pre-cursor to the launch of 2014 Malayalam edition of the Record Book, Limca Book of Records also organized a special panel discussion based on the topic “Equality for women is progress for all”. The panel included K. S Chithra, Anju Bobby George, R. Sreelekha ADGP and Ajai Kumar, Zonal Operations head, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd. This initiative included discussions on measures to further the agenda to empowering women and ensuring equality across the spectrum.

The Coca-Cola Intra-State Challenge will be played in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh (all 13 districts), Punjab (eight districts), Baroda, Tamil Nadu (Chennai + 8 districts), West Bengal (Kolkata + 18 districts), Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow, Kanpur & Allahabad), and Madhya Pradesh (4 districts). The format of the Coca-Cola Cricket Cup has been structured to begin with the Intra-State Challenge. The centers that have more than one city or district will play their own inter-district before one winner emerges from each center. The winners from the ten centers will feature in the Inter-State Challenge.
