  Coca-Cola India Announces 'Sprite Gully Cricket Championship' - Season II
Initiative supported by an integrated communication program launched in association with Kolkata Knight Riders to promote Cricket at the grass root level

  • Grass root level initiative organized in association with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to connect & engage with the youth promote cricket and talent at the grassroots level
  • Keeping in line with Sprite's Seedhi Baat No bakwaas attitude, the Sprite gully cricket championship urges the young and budding cricket players to 'Stop preaching & start playing'
  • Beginning 19th February, championship will involve over 1400 young and budding cricket players from 4 states in 7 cities - Kolkata, Bardhman, Siliguri, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Patna & Guwahati
  • 7 city finalists selected from City league matches get to win Rs 1 lakh & also form 'Cheer for KKR Squad' at Eden Gardens in Kolkata
  • Winner selected from Super league matches played between the city winners & Dotcom Sports (winners of last year's gully cricket) to get a MEGA prize of Rs 3 lakh and an exclusive opportunity to meet Shahrukh Khan, Saurav Ganguly, along with other team members of Kolkata Knight Riders
  • Initiative supported by an integrated marketing communication program to build excitement and recreate IPL extravaganza on the streets – includes TV, Radio, internet in-addition to on ground activities like road shows, music bands, cheerleaders, dance troupes to create a carnival atmosphere on the streets.

16th February, 2010: Gearing up for the third season of the Twenty-20 cricket extravaganza, the DLF- Indian Premier League (IPL), Coca-Cola India today announced the Sprite Gully Cricket championship-Season 2 across Bihar, North Bengal and North East. This grassroot level cricket championship aims to connect and engage with the youth across this part of country by tapping into their key passion – Cricket and discover the young promising cricket talent in the region. Beginning 19th February, championship will involve over 1400 young and budding cricket players from 4 states in 7 cities - Kolkata, Bardhman, Siliguri, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Patna and Guwahati. As part of the initiative, the winner selected from Super league matches played between the city winners & Dotcom Sports (winners of last year's gully cricket) to get a MEGA prize of Rs 3 lakh and an exclusive opportunity to meet Shahrukh Khan, Saurav Ganguly, along with other team members of Kolkata Knight Riders.

According to Srinivas Murthy, Director Marketing, Flavors, Coca-Cola India, "Street Cricket is the most authentic format of Cricket in India. Cricket, especially Twenty20 Cricket is a huge passion amongst the youth today. Sprite has been the associate Sponsor and the Official Pouring Partner of Kolkata Knight Riders. The success of IPL has taken the game to a new high and provides Coca-Cola India a very exciting platform to connect with all its consumers. Our new initiative, Sprite Gully Cricket Championship, is in keeping with brand Sprite's positioning of 'Seedhi Baat, No Bakwaas... Sprite Gully Cricket Championship provides the young cricket talent a unique opportunity to play the game of cricket on street and actually feeling the adrenaline rush of the IPL extravaganza. Beginning 19th February, championship will involve over 1400 young and budding cricket players from 4 states in 7 cities - Kolkata, Bardhman, Siliguri, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Patna & Guwahati. The 7 city finalists selected from the city league matches get to win Rs 1 lakh & also form 'Cheer for KKR Squad' at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The entire initiative is supported by an integrated marketing communication program to build excitement and recreate IPL extravaganza on the streets – includes TV, Radio, internet in-addition to on ground activities like road shows, music bands, cheerleaders, dance troupes to create a carnival atmosphere on the streets. The championship is open for all young players between the age group of 15-24 years.

Last year, Sprite launched 'Sprite Nokia Para cricket League'- a unique format to bring alive the character of cricket on the streets of Kolkata.T10 format of Sprite Nokia Para League was played across 6 venues in Kolkata by 32 Para teams. The winning team, DOTCOM Sports from Naskar Para was sent to South Africa to cheer for their favorite team- Kolkata Knight Riders.

Sprite Gully Cricket Championship is being organized in 7 cities in Kolkata, Bardhman, Siliguri, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Patna & Guwahati. The Interested players in these cities are required to log in on www.sprite.in and submit the forms at the appointed centers in each city. 32 teams will be selected through a lucky draw to play the City League. 16 teams will be finally selected through a 'Super-over' game.

The City League will comprise of 16 teams and the winning teams will win Rs 1 lakh as prize money and get a chance to be a part of the 'Cheer for KKR Squad' and also watch the KKR matches at Eden Gardens. The Winner of each city will compete in the 'Super League' to be hosted in Patna/ Kolkata

The Super League will have 8 teams- winner of each city along with last year's winner, DOTCOM Sports. Winner will get a MEGA prize of Rs 3 lakhs and an exclusive opportunity to meet Shahrukh Khan, owner Kolkata Knight Riders, Saurav Ganguly and other team members of Kolkata Knight Riders.
