Coca-Cola India dedicates three Rain Water Harvesting Projects to the Community in Varanasi

Richard L. Miller, Vice President, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd, North Region dedicates three Rain Water Projects in Varanasi
Reinforcing its commitment towards Water preservation & conservation, Richard L. Miller,Vice President, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd North Region, on behalf of Coca-Cola India dedicated three Rain Water Harvesting Projects today in & around the historical city of Varanasi. The Three projects covering roof area of 5500 square meter will together create an annual ground water recharge potential of over 4,900 cubic meter. These Projects have been commissioned at Krishi Bhavan, Lehartara, Kisan Inter College,Mirzamurad and Ram Manohar P G College, Bhairotalab.

As a run up to the World Water Dayon March 22, Coca-Cola India also unveiled the Water Initiatives to be undertaken in Varanasi. The Plan includes commissioning of Eight new Roof-Top Rain Water Harvesting Projects in Varanasi, These projects will be spread over a total roof-top area of 17,500 square meter and create annual ground water recharge potential of over 14,485 cubic meter. The new Rain Water Harvesting Projects are coming up at four sites in the campus of Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Mahamna Inter College and Sardar Ballab Bhai Patel Degree College, Bachhaon, Sardar Patel Inter College, Mataldai and Maharaj Balwant Singh PG College, Rajatalab.

Speaking on the occasion, Richard L. Miller, Vice President, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd, North Region said, “It has been our constant endeavor to work with the communities wherever we operate. We share water resources with the local community; therefore we pro-actively work in the area of water conservation and ensuring water sustainability. The objective is to create awareness amongst the younger generation and farming communities on the needs to conserve and recharge ground water."

Coca-Cola India created an annual ground water recharge potential of over 13,000 cubic meters in Varanasi area and 3400 cubic meter in know in the year 2006. Gaurav Chaturvedi, Area Operations Director, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd. also mentioned that Coca-Cola India is considering the option of rejuvenating and recharging more community ponds & building check dams to stop the run off water to ensure better ground water recharge.
