partnership with an NGO- Development Alternatives (TARA) and the members of the extended family including bottlers, vendors and distributors started Mission Hope, a relief and rehabilitation initiative for the distressed women of Nagapattinam in February, 2005.
In association with Development Alternatives (TARA) & Perriyar Institute of technology (PIT), an economic rehabilitation and a training program was sparked off for four Self-Help Groups of forty women. This involved starting four clay brick manufacturing units and a three month long training provided by the volunteers of PIT and TARA. The training included up gradation of skills, handholding and enhancing marketing skills.
Members of our extended family including Western Refrigeration Pvt. Ltd, Enrich Agro Food Products Ltd, Manaksia Ltd and AMD Metplast Pvt. Ltd provided funds for this project. Earlier bottlers and vendors had extended support to immediate relief efforts through cash, volunteer, distribution of Water and food packets, logistic and transportation support etc.
President of India Shri A P J Abdul Kalam visited Tsunami affected areas of Nagapattinam on 29 th June and interacted with women from these Self Help Groups while inspecting Clay Brick manufacturing units. He was appreciative of the efforts undertaken by SHGs .
The project, Mission Hope has accomplished objectives of all partners to assist Tsunami Survivors in their journey to self-sustenance. |
