Reaffirming its commitment to protect and preserve the environment, Coca-Cola India commemorated the World Environment Day by announcing the completion of over 90, 00,000 liters Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) Project at SOS Children's Village located at Tambaram East, Chennai. A part of the nationwide partnership between SOS Children's Villages of India, The Coca-Cola Foundation and Coca-Cola India, the project is a step to ensure sustainable water resources for children in the village in South India.
A special dedication ceremony was organized and the project was dedicated to the community by Deepak Jolly, Vice President, Public Affairs & Communication, Coca-Cola India, Uma Narayanan, Managing Trustee, SOS Children's Villages and S. Nambi Varatharajan, Village Director, Chennai. This project is a step to ensure sustainable water resources for children in the village and for communities around the village.
Rakesh Jinsi, National Director of SOS Children's Villages of India said, "I am pleased to announce the completion of work at the Children's Village in Chennai. The project will not only help groundwater recharge but will also ensure that our children are able to grow up in a safe and hygienic environment. They will also become aware about the importance of water conservation and grow up into being the proponents for the cause of water conservation."

Speaking on the occasion Deepak Jolly, VP, Public Affairs & Communication, Coca-Cola India, "Water conservation and environment management today requires a participative and collaborative approach. Each stakeholder in the society must contribute to the best of his ability for sustainability of the Earth's resources. I am thankful to SOS Children's Village for coming together with us to start this nationwide project of rainwater harvesting and I am delighted to be present here at the completion of the project, well within the specified timeframe."
The nationwide partnership between SOS Children's Villages, The Coca-Cola Foundation and Coca-Cola India was for the construction of RWH projects in over 30 SOS Villages/ locations spread across the country for a total project outlay not exceeding USD 585,000 (Rs. 28,080,000). Out of this, The Coca-Cola Foundation based in Atlanta has made a grant of USD 391,920 whereas the SOS Children's Villages of India is making its contribution through manpower, material and financial resources.
The RWH project at the SOS Children's Village in Chennai has been constructed as per technical drawings approved by authorized consultants and the National Steering Committee. The National Steering Committee consists of experts from the field of water management, eminent personalities from civil society and representatives from Coca-Cola India and SOS Children's Villages.
